The Mauritian government has approved the enactment of the Data Protection (Designation, Tasks and Position of Data Protection Officers) Regulations 2026, which set out the duties, qualifications, and organizational position of Data Protection Officers (DPOs). In particular, DPOs will be responsible for ensuring compliance with data protection legislation and serving as the liaison with the Data Protection Office, the national data protection authority. A six-month transitional period is provided before the regulations come into force on 1 January 2027.
