The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) announced on June 8, 2026, the launch of the Meta-Supported Initiative for Data Protection (M-SIDP), a two-year program resulting from a judicial settlement agreement with Meta in 2025.
The initiative aims to strengthen data protection in Nigeria by aligning Meta’s activities with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the NDPC’s strategic objectives. The program focuses on governance, the security of technology ecosystems, the training of data protection officers, and public awareness efforts, particularly targeting vulnerable groups.
The NDPC emphasized that it will retain its independent regulatory powers and will encourage regular updates on the project's progress.
