Ghana has launched its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (2025-2035) to foster inclusive growth and establish the country as a leader in AI across Africa. Central to this strategy is the creation of a Responsible AI Authority (RAI Authority), tasked with overseeing its implementation, coordinating key stakeholders, and ensuring the ethical and responsible adoption of AI in alignment with UNESCO's recommendations.
Regulation focuses on strengthening data governance, with clear legal frameworks for data sharing and protection, and upgrading the Data Protection Commission into a more robust national authority. The strategy also includes mechanisms for transparency, auditing, and certification of AI systems, while promoting collaboration among public, private, and academic sectors to ensure AI is inclusive, secure, and respectful of human rights.
